b. List in White

MdM does groove. There is music and there is sonic filler. One big item that distinguish them is rythm, a pattern in time that hold a music construction together. Without rythm, a music piece might as well performed by a clever circus monkey doing random noise. It won't have that satisfying depth. And from all rythmic pattern, groove is the most complex and advance of them all. It's practically an architecture spanning over entire song, sometimes without repeating even a single moment yet holding the overall pattern. It's as true music as it gets. So get ready. This list is groovy.

01. Beastie Boys - Groove Holmes
02. Mary Lou Williams - Praise The Lord
03. Art Ensemble Of Chicago - Theme de Yoyo
04. US3 - Cantaloop
05. Medeski, Martin & Wood - The Lover
06. Medeski, Martin & Wood - Ekoostic Hooka (Live)

I am not the editor of this site, so I am tagging this as a foonote. Mary Lou Williams song subject matter is merely coincident, it's the rythm texture that gets the song into the list.

Specifically regarding spiritual/religious theme, I am not sure if you are aware of the main subject matter/ center of gravity of this blog. It's fairly off from the theme you propose.

So, probably the best approach is, to propose a stylistic instead of thematic content. I mean we don't want to offend any religious group, when after one such list, the next post will be about 'kinky orgy' complete with picture. The content direction of blog is fairly eclectic in 'strange' way.

    my 2c.
    cheers.

I don't think the religious theme is that far away from the motel squashed. After all, chrish & oum are in charge of spiritedradio... their last post was about yiddish music, right?
Muslim unity, send me your playlist to my mail: glattau@yahoo.com.mx
If I likey, it gets published ;). Thanks for sharing.

Just thought I'd mention that Hip Hop producer J Dilla http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J_Dilla passed away on the 10th due to kidney failure. Very sad indeed. He had just turned 32. Looking at what he achieved in his short life I'm extremely humbled. Amongst his accolades, the production of the Stakes Is High album for De La Soul, and tracks from the last Common album. I only just found out now.
