Small list

A small weekend night list with favorite pieces.

01. Bach - Aria from Goldberg Variation [hp]
My idea of perfect music, serene and well balanced. Elegant. A piece is so delicate, it reveals the temprament of any musicians who plays it. Either it's there, or not.

02. The Nels Cline Singers - Suspended Head
A small group lead by avant jazz guitarist Nels Cline, amazing works. Their CD is worth owning.

03. Matmos - The Struggle Against Humanity
High quality IDM. It deserves wider recognition for their cutting edge work. A decade from now, we will still dabble with what they are doing. There is certain poignant hope in their mechanical like texture. Very elegant.

04. Lauren K. Newman - Bleak, Ruined Choir of One
She is a brave one, screaming her head off. Her pieces are like a giant storm, coming in and wiping everything out with raw emotion.

05. The 90 days men - The Methodist
An obscure Chicago mathrock group. Three decades ahead of their time.

06. Fridge - Lign
This 40 seconds work sums up perfectly what post-rock is. It says what it has to say then end. Honest and sweet.

The songs are all good: bach, matmos, some fridge, not their best songs but very good.
The reason I comment though is to say that those fractals are amazing, and they look very good on the post. Check this link for some fractal art:

    Thanks for the Matmos clip!
I saw them years back in Boston - they opened for a Bjork concert (Vespertine) and I knew nothing about Matmos going into it. The band is 2 guys, and a whole army of computers and stuff. For part of their set, they played a song by plucking the bars of a bird cage. Theirs was the weirdest set I've ever seen - they used static bars to collect static noises off each other, they were making out as they were playing, they had cameras probing the insides of their mouths... It certainly wasn't boring, but I remember thinking their music was structured and interesting, despite how eclectically and weirdly it was being presented. They stuck around for most of the Bjork set, too. For a year after, I snooped around for their stuff, and then gave up and forgot all about it (cool shit like Matmos/Bjork doesn't happen in FL, where I live now).

    Thanks for reminding me.
I check this site like every 10 minutes (when I'm home not having a life) because of awesome posts like this.

It seems this blog has really become popular... we're receiving spam again... even with the word verification...
Madpercolator is so lucky for seeing matmos live. I think that the song they play with a cage is called "for felix and all the rats", they make the cage sound like strings, really impressive. Didn't knew they made out on stage, now I like them even more...
The whole list is really good squashed, thanks.
