Around the globe in 9 songs

Well then, they've kept calling me malinchista* because I haven't posted in spanish and most of the songs in the blog come from outside latinamerica. Well I'm not a "malinchista" but I haven't heard anything that blew my mind coming from latin america in a few years, so if you have any recommendations for me, bring them on, I'd be happy to join you anytime.
I hope you enoy this collection of tunes from around the world that have been constantly re-appearing on my player this days. The song from Buena Vista Social Club goes dedicated to my beloved, "Aqui se queda la clara, la entreniable transparencia de tu querida presencia", in the meanwhile I wish good luck to the suspicious Comandante Marcos on his political motorbike trip around Mexico. He has the chance to do something beautiful to this country, I'm hoping he does the right thing.

Gustavo Cerati - raiz
Buena Vista Social Club - hasta siempre comandante che guevara
Sublime - 5446/ball and chain
San Pascualito Rey - te voy a dormir
Los Fabulosos Cadillacs - los condenaditos
Amadou et Mariam - coulibaly
Cafe Tacuba - una manana
Los Aterciopelados - luz azul
Selasee - run

Something you'll learn today:
*malinchista: Word used to identify countrymen who betray their race and country; those who mix their blood and culture with European or other outside influences. The word comes from "malinche", a mexican woman who betrayed her indian race during times of the Spanish conquest. She was also called under the pseudonym "La chingada" which more or less means "the fucked one".

Hey, When Apes Rule The Earth! is gone. I have since moved on to more creative things. A better looking venue for my randomness and love of making fun of celebrities. It's more like a website than a blog. Check it.

These people that dissed you, did any of them have unpopular blogs? :). I think its obviously important to post Latin American music, but no one should dictate what you should post. I would only post South African songs that I liked. Good response with the 'Around The World' post. Ligeti fans rule!

Any blog that doesn't post Schoenberg only is obviously no music blog.

(...uhm okay maybe not. How about only experimental avant-garde?)

Yeahy, good to see another Ligeti fan around here!
Squashed I don't understand u, are you suggesting something?
(Yes Schoenberg deserves many posts but I don't think a complete blog about Schoenberg would be that popular...maybe a website?)

    Hi Moka,

I guess I am in trouble. :D I was half jesting. (everybody demands certain type of song, so I throw in my demand too. )

But on serious note, it is a good idea to try some avant garde pieces too. just to tickle interest and add spices. Who knows people will start talking about it. Glenn Gould does a very listenable rendering of Schoenberg piano works for eg.

I'll email you. (sorry a bit late. was off line.)

Speaking of avant garde and curious music. wfmu has an interesting entry about machine generated music (not electronic, but mechanical machine. It's an interesting entry.)

Have you ever checked out http://www.ubu.com/mp3/ ? Their list of stuff is astounding. They have a full album of John Cage & Sun Ra collaborating. There's just so much stuff. Tres arty! (Sorry to be like only half "on topic").
