The Bends Reworked

1. Radiohead - planet telex (karma sunra rmx)
2. Anthrax - the bends
3. Transient feat. Shelonda - fake plastic trees
4. Bilal & Pete Kuzma - high and dry
5. Radiohead - Bones (live)
6. Matthew Herbert and Mara Carlyle - (nice dream)
7. Mark Ronson feat. Alex Greenwald - just
8. The Section - my iron lung
9. Sarah Slean - bulletproof (I wish I was)
10. Christoper O' Riley - black star
11. Peter Mulvey - sulk
12. The Darkness - street spirit (fade out)

The bends was created as a malignant and humurous reaction to the one-hit-wonder pigeonhole of "Creep". Probably the last rock oriented album from Radiohead we'll ever hear and the one which has arguably the biggest hooks of their career, not to mention the impotence & affecting claustrophobia reached in songs like "fake plastic trees" and "street spirit", some of the most affecting Thom Yorke's pen has begotten.
With hindsight after OK Computer and everything else that has come since, The Bends seems just a little bit less special than it once was. Today I have given myself the task to recover the stark and simple beauty of "the bends" by offering you diverse covers and remixes (actually just one remix) that have helped me gain more appreciattion again for this album. I couldn't find any remix or cover of "Bones", a shame as it is one of my favorite songs from the album, I'm filling it with a live version of the song with Thom's voice sounding somewhat cynical (he used to be a very moody small man back then).
Hope you enjoy.

nice to see Radiohead posts the glory days of "OK Computer" and "The Bends," before they started experimenting a bit too much...

anonymous: I still care about radiohead as they're one of my favorite bands ever. Actually they're the only band that have made me break my self-imposed RIAA major-label boycott to buy their albums.
Of course I don't dislike your opinion of rh being your pet hate, I do dislike anonymous hit & run comments tho.

first of all, it has almost no radiohead songs in it. So what's your problem? It's a derivative/reinterpretation. This sort of post is pretty rare, show me other blog that does it. on any album.... (okay I did it with buckley even but that was so long ago)

    ok. I am waiting....

..plus, if you know better, how about showing what you can do? now THAT"S interesting.

whiner is a dime a dozen and it doesn't change a thing, but create something...then maybe somebody can learn something from it.

"Arguably the biggest hooks of their career" is a bold statement.

    So im going to argue....

One of my favourite hooks is in "In Limbo" from "Kid A", furthermore "Idioteque" boasts a chorus which should have gained a no.1 slot for 72 consecutive years.

also the first anoymous guy talks that much shit about Thom Yorke mighty Radiohead army, i am going to give him an e-slap for the whole Radiohead community.

Get a fucking grip Radiohead are easily the best band on the planet.

Im going to see them for the 11th time soon, and they even managed to get Beck to support them

    YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

"when i am king , you will be forced against the wall"

K I support "in limbo" as a great hook, and well really most of Ok computer has also some of the best hooks in rock history, it's just that since the bends, radiohead has become less guitar oriented which has led them to loose the focus on good guitar in exchange for more sound-based structure in songs. To clarify, I'm not complaining at all, I like best the path radiohead has taken since then.

btw, when talking about hooks I meant "guitar hooks", sorry for any confusion the statement might have caused.

Interesting choice for Black Star. Didn't that guy record just about all the Radiohead? Check out Gillian Welch and David Rawlings. Heartbreaking.
