Revival No.2 (Punk Edition.)
"People try to put us down, just because we get around. I don't need that fucking shit. I am not trying to cause big sensation. Talking about my generation. I am so young, goddamn young. We created it, let's take it over." - Patti Smith
'My generation' might as well sum up the entire punk culture. A generational declaration, many thought as 'attitude', but really a radical re-interpretation of blues and poetry in Rock n Roll. The attitude is backed up by significantly more demanding electric guitar playing. Faster. Louder. A short riff and phrase played twice or three times the regular tempo. A departure from much too commercialized post vietnam invasion recording industry, the fat Elvis period.
It's always the raw skill that redefines time despite all the ass clowns in high places who say no. "Peculiar infidels". "... but he could play a guitar just like ringing a bell, go go... johnny go."
Salute to all the great ones.
Kinks - All Day and All Of the Night
Patti Smith - My Generation
Mike Watt - Dirty Blue Gene
The (International) Noise Conspiracy - Born into a Mess
The Jesus Lizard - Pop Song
Chuck Berry - Johnny B Goode

Heh, noone has commented on this so I'll be the first one, excellent list but missed the following punk songs:
Undertones - teenage kicks
Buzzcocks - have you ever fallen in love
The Stranglers - peaches
Television - marquee moon
And of course, you missed something by the clash or iggy pop.

Hey squashed, besides the recommendations Pil did up here (see I told you we needed some clash) Check out the 4 cd compilation: "no thanks! The 70's punk rebellion" A great collection, hell even those obnoxious pitchfork reviewers gave it a 10.0: http://pitchforkmedia.com/record-reviews/comp/rhino/no-thanks.shtml
